Locus creates beautifully crafted, fold-out, mini-guides to neighborhoods in major cities across India. These pocket-friendly maps offer a handpicked experience of the city, a handy tool for tourists visiting the city for the first time who want an insight into the city life. Since the opening of our Kala Ghoda store, Locus approached us to provide a graphic language of the Kala Ghoda area. Equal parts financial and arts district, Kala Ghoda represents the duality within the city of Bombay. With a mixture of old repair shops and modern design stores, the area is entrenched in the past but also boasts of a hipster enclave. The iconic horse silhouette is used as the front cover and that dictates the tone of the rest of the map.
The visual language uses a minimalist style to capture the architecture of the area. The color palette of pink, purple and blue add vibrancy to the map. Hints of vintage photography are used to remind us of what the area looked like.

Apart from architecture, the map also includes experiential elements - the area is filled with busy lawyers getting their documents printed and hustling around.
Kala Ghoda also houses some of the most iconic buildings in Bombay, many known for the Art Deco architecture style.
